Agitation Free was one of the most important bands in the experimental scene of the so-called „Berlin School“ and marked the beginning of a professional career for numerous musicians. In addition to a change in the line-up on guitar – Stefan Diez (brother of Frank Diez) replaced Jörg Schwenke – and the departure of Uli Pop (perc), there was also a musical change. The world music and ethnic influences of their debut album Malesch largely disappeared in favour of a decidedly more Western-oriented, guitar-dominated and direct psychedelic rock. After numerous tours throughout Europe, which brought them steadily increasing popularity, they produced their second album, 2nd, in July 1973 at Studio 70 in Munich, which was released later that year by Vertigo.
The instrumental album presents a daring mix of extended Krautrock jams, experimentalism and a relaxed atmosphere. Spacy acid rock with experimental electronic synthesizer passages combined with jazzy psychedelic guitar solos and mystical sound effects alternate with calm and harmonious rock improvisations, some of which create meditative and nature-loving soundscapes. The highly sought-after second album is considered a classic and one of the best German instrumental rock albums of the 1970s.
